“SUPER SENIORS? DO Elderly LIVES MATTER?

DO Elderly LIVES MATTER?

As a Kid, I was taught to always respect old people, by my grandMA MAMA LAKE.

However, here’s the problem, in today’s modern world I see a changing trend, the youngsters today have no respect for their elders. They believe that we are useless.

Keep watching and I can show you how you can change the way you think of ELDERS. As it says in the good book “Do Unto Others, as you would have them do unto you!” If you are disrespecting ELDERS, it has to STOP! Because, You too will be OLD one of these days… if you are lucky.

Hi Im Thom, Thom Mcfadden your Stop Acting Your Age Ambassador

Now, You need to review the condition and appreciate the concept of respect in relation to elders.

Im my humble opinion, Now, more than ever, I feel respect is the most important part of all relationships. Especially with all the racism, sexual harassment and political incorrectness in the world these days.
Showing respect to the elders means to be kind and understanding towards them and listening, even if you don’t agree. It’s basically one human showing respect to another no matter their age.

The fact is, in to many families, the elderly are treated more like old furniture than an active member of the family.
Way to many are being shipped off to nursing homes, as if they are throwing away the trash!

On the other hand, there are many cultures in other parts of the world, where elderly are looked up to with love and respect for their experience and wisdom, known as sageism. In these countries, the elders are still looked upon as the chief of the family, they share their knowledge, direct the youngsters, and pave the way for the next generation.

Download your SAY-A quick guide PDF below with some wonderful Quick tips, and learn how to treat your Elders with respect!

And remember As it says in the good book “Do Unto Others, as you would have them do unto you!” Halleluyah

“I’M AS MAD AS HELL, AND I’M NOT GOING TO TAKE THIS Anymore!”

MY New Year Revolution

The other day… [THOM TELLS STORY ABOUT YOUNG PEOPLE MAKING FUN OF OLD PEOPLE HERE]

Even though many people have become used to birthday cards, advertisements and jokes making fun of the elderly, the stereotypes that aging is equal to being weak and/or disabled is very harmful and should never be tolerated. Elders are mostly made fun of, ignored, and ridiculed. They are also not taken seriously based strictly on their age.
“I’M AS MAD AS HELL, AND I’M NOT GOING TO TAKE THIS ANYMORE!”
Hi. I’m Thom. Thom McFadden. Your Stop Acting Your Age Ambassador.

Gone are those days when seniors just sit back and let the youngsters take the reins. Today, the modern-day senior believes in their willpower and are one’s biggest advocates. They are reinventing the society’s idea of what it is like to grow old. The elderly, today, carry with themselves cell phones, not walkers. They no longer sit on rocking chairs every day, but on bicycles. Arts, crafts, bingo, and checkers have now been substituted with jogging, white water rafting and skiing. Elders are healthy, vivacious, influential members of the society.

However, sadly, ageism is intensely prevalent in our society. As found by a Duke University survey of people aged 60 and above, 84 percent of those who participated have reported experiencing some kind of ageism.

Apart from being extremely upsetting and mortifying, expressions of ageism might have severe harmful effects on the health and comfort of seniors. In a study which was conducted by Yale University’s Professor of Public Health, Becca Levy, individuals aged fifty years and older, who had optimistic self-perceptions of aging, lived on average seven and a half years longer than those individuals who had negative self-perceptions regarding aging. The same study discovered that positive attitudes regarding aging can help boost mental health in the seniors. People exposed to encouraging images as well as messages on aging, experienced considerably better memory along with balance, whereas people exposed to negative stereotypes experienced memory loss and also felt worthless.

These highly shocking statistics strengthen the significance of taking a firm stand against ageism. Seniors, along with people who love seniors have the chance to instruct their friends, family as well as acquaintances on the detrimental effects of what they may consider being upbeat or good-natured flippant comments.

When you get to hear terms for example “geezer,” “crotchety,” “granny,” or “senile,” it is important that you tell the person who said them that these terms are hurtful and stereotypical. It is very important to make people understand that this kind of language is often rooted in a misinterpretation of the realities of advanced years. So many people presume that with aging, comes handicapping along with frailty. However, this is not the case and this stereotype needs to be broken.

Ageism is an upsetting form of bias, which affects everyone in the society. Living a lengthy, full life is regarded as a privilege, thus it is very important that we create a community, which respects old age and also continues to consider people as irreplaceable individuals as they age, rather than relegates them into undesirable stereotypes.
