A Little Help From my Friends

A Little Help From my Friends

We all might be familiar with this Beatles song and the lyrics “Oh, I get by with a little help from my friends, Mmm, get high with a little help from my friends, Oh, I’m going to try with a little help from my friends”. As we age and look back on our lives, one of our biggest regrets may be that we didn’t keep in touch with friends. It may be a kid from the neighborhood, a high school sweetheart, or a long-time friend that you just lost touch with.

This is a huge regret among oldtimers, but not to worry, there’s plenty of ways to find them and rekindle the relationship. Here’s a few ways to find your pals:

Social Media

With the explosion of social media sites, it’s gotten so much easier to find old classmates, college buddies, and pretty much anyone you knew.

Now this is going to be fun! As a Boomer Plus, you get to become a detective! I love google, and should too!

Just enter their name in the search bar on Twitter or Facebook and see which profile matches up with your friend and send out a “friend request”. Facebook also has Pages for school and college alumni students that you can join and ask “Does anyone know Joe, Class of ’65?”

You’d be amazed how much the world has shrunk through social media, and Just how much they know about you!

Online Search

Do a straight up search on a search engine like Google. Just enter their full name in the search bar with quotations – “Joe Blow”. If you know any other detail such as where they live add that as well – “Joe Blow” Hollywood. These searches often give you their addresses, social media profiles, work profile or any website they have created and so on.

Public Records

Various public record sites are available such as usa.gov (which may be complicated due to its size), but search for “records” in the main search box and it narrows it down to military records and some State public record sites.

You can also search Genealogy sites such as FamilyTreeNow.com and Ancestry.com, that will list current and past addresses for free, (or a free trial).

A warning to y’all though, don’t be scammed by those websites that charge a fee to find people – they are using the exact same sources I’ve mentioned here. Save your money and do it yourself.

If you’re one of those “technically challenged” and just don’t like those new-fangled gadgets – no problem. The public library has a large resource of information and people to help you research, from their own genealogy club, their own public record listings, to having plain old local knowledge.

So, stop the regret and just reach out to those old friends and say “Hey!” You might be surprised that they were wondering about you too!

Turning “OLD” into “GOLD”

Have you ever said to yourself, while looking in the mirror brushing your teeth. Am I OLD and worthless, is that me?

Lets imagine that you can turn OLD, into GOLD! Because There is gold between them ears partner! You’re not worthless, your value is in your perception!

Life is a state of consciousness. But most people walk around in a state of trance. They’re just breathing. However, “As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.” You are what you think. So don’t stop breathing but start consciously thinking.

Everything you have and do is strictly in accordance with your consciousness. As Barbara Streisand wisely says, “The outside world mirrors what we think of ourselves.”

You should acknowledge what is right with you every day, and the good will grow. Sometimes it is difficult to acknowledge the good, when your mind still sees incompleteness and imperfection in many areas of your life.

I’m reminded of the often-quoted statement, “What the mind can conceive and believe, the mind can achieve.” It sounds like a simple process. And it is, but it is not easy.

80% of people don’t listen, don’t care, and don’t get it. Whenever I teach, I know that only 20% of my students will really commit to changing their lives.

A secret has been staring us in the face for years: If we allow others to make our decisions for us, we become voluntary slaves. The wool has been pulled over our eyes by the media.

Pick up a paper, turn on the news, you see what they want us to see: Work or Strike, Unions or Bosses, Jobs, Interest Rates, Accidents, Floods, Earthquakes, Tornadoes, Tidal Waves, Starvation, Death, and the mother of all: Weapons of Mass Destruction.

Here’s the bright side: there is a savvy crowd, whom are called Super Hero Boomer networkers. These individuals look after themselves, and respect their associates for doing the same. You can join us. But you must decide that you can take care of yourself with the right knowledge and support.

Multimillionaire athletes are paid for what they do. But they could not do it without a team to back them up. The SUPER star could not function if there was no team, or no one to play with. You can be a “superstar” with a team that respects you if you can take care of yourself. Maybe you’ve heard of grabbing the brass ring.

The brass ring is within you. In fact, pardner, the brass ring is made of gold. You can grab it and never let go. By constantly working on yourself to be a better, giving, sharing, loving man or woman, you have all the resources already to be that “superstar”. in your life You are made of the right stuff. You only need to access it.

Most of us associate prosperity with money. But when we look deeper, it’s secondary to having an elevated quality of life. Heaven high! So, let’s start now. Start! That’s the key. If you don’t start, you will never achieve success.

Once you DO start, the whole universe works with you. This is the immutable principle of cause and effect.

Your Golden Opportunity lies within

YOUR LIFE WILL BE WHAT YOU MAKE OF IT

The golden opportunity you are seeking lies within you.

It’s not in your environment. It’s not in luck or chance, or in the help of others.

It’s all in you. There are opportunities all around you. Even at our age!

If the door of opportunity appears closed, you must knock on it and keep knocking on it until it opens.

You must become an opener of doors. You can develop your opportunities by applying persistence and tenacity to your possibilities.

Success doesn’t come to you. You must go to success.

You know, dieing is not difficult. You just have to breath, eat, drink water, sleep and wait.

What’s hard is living, that you have to practice. Practice discipline and mastery.

Aim to be the best and never doubt that you can get there. it helps to have to have a program.

So here’s a program for you: These are the ABCs to Stop Acting You Age. and start living.

First, let’s start with the A’s.

You start off in the morning with the first A, which is Attitude. Tell yourself every morning before your feet hit the ground: I’m going to have a great attitude.

Whatever you say to yourself, that goes into your subconscious, and that allows you to start your day off right. If you don’t have a great attitude, if you tell yourself negative thoughts first thing, then right off the bat you’re going to start off on the wrong foot, that means you are going to spend a lot of time tripping over yourself, and thats no fun.

The next A is for Action. Action is the lifeblood of acting. Action is the lifeblood of Success. Action is the lifeblood of life. There’s really no passivity. It all takes action.

So you want to take action in a positive way that’s going to allow you to proceed and move forward in your life. As an Actor, you’re always waiting for the director to yell “Action”. And now what does that mean?

That’s when it starts. Action is what it takes for you to start. So start taking action, Stop Acting

Your Age,Now!.
Stay tuned for the b’s in Stop Acting Your Age.

Dangerfields Says Respect Thy Elders

Rodney Dangerfield the late comedian Was a very funny man and he played “I get no respect” to the hilt.

he got a lot of respect from comedians because he was Brilliant portraying that character but now I see a lot of Boomers portraying the same character but not funny, because they are playing the victim.

Poor me I get no respect Just because someone has managed to live past 60+ does not mean they automatically have respect from everyone else.

We’ve all been subjected to the age-old belief to ‘respect thy elders.”

My question is this: What exactly is it about being old that makes you think you deserve respect?

What I find ridiculous about this belief is it generalizes a single characterization over an entire subset of the populace.

Generalizing one description over such a wide group of people is typically a no-no for intelligent people who have the brainpower to know better than to think

just because a person falls under a certain umbrella means they must also fit a narrow mold of other beliefs and categorizations.

Similarly, it would be ridiculous to assume that being a young adult automatically makes someone a drug-using party animal. It is absurd to assume being old means someone is sage and responsible.

Of course, being of an advanced age can gift someone with the necessary characteristics to be capable of garnering respect.

And, it is equally possible for someone to live past the age of 60 and still be a complete A-hole.

Essentially, people should not automatically be rewarded because they are old, because being advanced in years does not inherently imbue in someone the characteristics that make someone worthy of respect.

People should always be courteous and polite to others, including the elderly, but respect is something people should have to earn by proving they possess an admirable ability or quality, such as being responsible and hardworking.

Granting someone the honor of your respect is something one should not hand out willy-nilly. Respect should be earned.

While everyone should always treat others with civility, respect should be something that is more closely guarded. Make sure someone proves they are truly worthy of respect before granting it to them. Do not assume someone deserves respect because of old age.

Now, let’s change from “I get no respect” to, I will be, truly worthy of your respect. It works for me and it will for you too. B Bop
